Costa Rica in mid-September

Hey all,

I'm heading to CR for vac in mid sept till month end with a cpl buddies. We're looking to explore the country but also relax and take in some of the culture. We're going to be renting a jeep and wouldn't mind some tips on places we should definetly check out. Also we're looking to spend time on the beaches and explore the nightlife in CR. Where can we find hot local girls to party with and not pay for it? Any help would be appreciated...

Is better if you stay in a place close to everything and cofortable Alajuela is a good place to start.

Tamarindo is next party central

Dominical is next party central

Pt Viejo is next party central.

San Jose, El Pueblo bars, and the University in San Pedro, will have plenty of local Ticas, but without spanish your not going to get too far. Not to mention, hot local girls are everywhere, but they are also traditional, and may not want anything to do with a Gringo.

Its hard to tell who is a part timer and who is out for fun, but you will know as soon you ask to leave with them, they will name their price, as Prostitution is legal, and if your both bombed and go home, and the next morning she wants $60, pay up buddy, its the least you can do.

Late September is the rainy wet season, so your best bet weather wise, if a tropical depression is not in the Atlantic, will be the Caribe coast.

Otherwise, the NW area, near Tamarindo and Coco.

If you have wheels, hit Arenal, go river rafting, take surf lessons, and dont drive at night.

They do not have Jeeps in CR, but at least get a Rav 4 or similar....safe and comfy.

Dont leave anything in car ever, and go out at night with copy of Passport, money for the evening, and maybe 1 CC. Be leery of drug dealers and hookers that no its your 1st time, especially in Jaco and San Jose.

For a good entree to CR, get the MOON guidebook, or the LP.

Get Typhoid, Dyptheria and Tetnus Booster.

Hep A and for Sure Hep B (start now, takes 6 months), if your sexually active, Hep B is a must.

"Hot local girls to party with" have been warned about guys like you since they put on their first pair of flip flops. Dream on.

thx ticotim, its a toss up between CR, Cuba and Hawaii. The weather is a huge issue as it rains approx 300 days a year where I'm from and I'm trying to get away from this and enjoy the rays for 2 wks. When is the best time to vacation in CR?

Costa Rica is absolutely a sex tourist destination. You don't have to agree that it is a good thing or a bad thing, but it's indisputable. I just talked to a couple of guys yesterday that have been coming down once or twice a year for the last 6 years. The purpose of their trips is to fish and in the evenings sample the local working girls. That is not uncommon at all. There are even web sites that promote planned iteneraries for sampling the working girls in different areas of the country. As an expat living here pgincr, you are the only one deceiving people here.

I agree boomer. Maybe Cinthya should get together with tree house and start their own travel forum to promote their businesses. Most of their postings offer very little advise and it's obvious they just do it so the link to their business websites get into the thread.

hey goodfella, ticotim said it all.(everynow and then he gets somthing right) as far as costa rica being a sex tourist destination is false. it used to be a few years ago but not so much anymore. its all about parks and family type things now. while prostitution is legal there it is mostly found in san jose or jaco. for those who think it still is one of those type of destinations go to the dominican republic or angels city philippine,s. or maybe thailand (fill us in tim lol ) all things aside costa rica is loaded with singlle female travelers. check out any youth hostel the gals outnumber the guys 8 to one you guys haveing a car will be popular i am sure with the backpacker crowd. don

Can you tell me eaxctly what is wrong with that and how it affects you? If you are uncomfortabel with this, sit with your therapist or spiritual adviser and find out why.

You run a business catering to travellers (young ones mainly). Is there rules on who they can sleep with? I am not sure the last time you checked, but this is the Lonely Planet Bulletin Board and not the Christian Coalition Families looking for boring vacations.

I live and run a hotel in Puerto Viejo and let it go on record here... I see way more girls here "looking to party" then men. And some of the girls are even paying.... I tell you it´s awful... next thing you know you got sex education in public schools and condoms in the vending machines. It´s a modern day sodom and gommorah... Where will it end?

I always appreciate when people show their true colours. You can usually tell what is lurking beneath the surface... They just need an invitation to tell you what they really think. They are not good at holding back.

pgincr might want to check the laws in CR (and most other civilised countries) ... it is illegal to discriminate based on sexual orientation... but as usual, religious types almost always feel they are exempt from the law based on religious freedoms.

Wow! This thread has turned nasty! Yes, it's true that the phrase "looking to party with hot local girls you don't have to pay for" sounds slightly misogynistic -- are you assuming that women in CR are usually only putting out for some money?

However, anybody who has traveled as young, single person knows that there is always a hope to get a little no-strings-attached vacation booty.

But Pgincr, I'm wondering where do you post the rules of no gays in your hostel? Those rules are certainly not posted on your website. So how can a homosexual know that they are not wanted? Do you subject them to surprise searches of their backpacks? So when you find a gay flag, George Michael CD and nicely tailored linen pants are they promptly thrown out? Or maybe you keep your ear posted to doors waiting to hear the sounds of same-sex passion?

But anyway Goodfella, a great area to check out is the Caribbean coast, especially Puerto Viejo since it is the party town in that area. But you will find great beaches (go to the south of PV), surfing, hiking, whitewater rafting and loads of other travelers to party with.

I can understand a policy of not allowing Prostitutes to join a registered guest, as it presents a security issue, not to mention a odd situation for other guest. Many countries, and better hotels, have such a policy.

I agree with Tim. And it saddens me to know that this is the way it is in what I would have considered to be an otherwise pleasant place to stay on my upcoming trip. I definitely won't be staying there now. No, pgincr, my husband and I are NOT gay. We just don't like your policy on gay guests. Casa girasol is a pleasant place to stay at. We are thanks full for all supporters but also sorry for all of you who don't understand our standing and our position.

Casa Girasol is not a hotel nor a hostel, Casa Girasol is everyones travelers house, a guest house for youth travelers mainly Latin Americans, Europeans and other north American students some university graduates looking for educated trips though our country. All are very welcomed, as such, we must have a few rules and decadence does not mix with our policy.

Its a safe heaven our community with much detailed information for the right groups, we feel very sorry to have caused inconvenience to some communities and wont fight over being slain nor kicked out of LP forums, but our policy stands.

...they have a lively nitelife along the avernue of the turistas attended by a lot of local university campus students...as well as by ticos from the inland areas going to the most tico touristed city in costa rica to party

...puntarenas is at the intersection of the ferry to the peninsual & for bus service up & down the coast as well as inland to san jose

...you will get people to attack the puntarenas as a lively nite spot...but like ticotim they have never spent a nite there & their lack of spanish limits their conversation with the locals to street girls who will listen all nite long as long as they're paying

there's a lot of pretty ticas on the beaches of puntarenas...very few gringas but there sometimes are some out towards the tioga hotel where they have a spanish school that seems to have a good clientelle much of the time

the university close by the muelle in the old banana warehouse during school hours is a good place to strike up a conversation with the local sex of your choice...sign up for a class...or use their computer room...you'll be the only gringo/a & attract conversation...

..i agree with taking a girl to montezuma ticotim...but only good for a day or 2...montezuma is such a boring & trite hippie town trying to hold on to a past...a past 2 decades beyond its prime

...but the sunrises on the ferry over to the peninsula are always enjoyable...before boarding the boring bus for the other half of the trip

....they used to have a daily service to montezuma on a boat called the simba...a convertered private yacht...it left from a bar called bananas on the esturary side of the puntarenas peninsula that is no more...it was pretty popular but the tico bureaurcracy shut it down because of the competition it afforded the bus ferries & launcha

if you want to meet ticas...paid for or not...then puntarenas is the best place i know in cr...they have a lot of ticas who go to the university located on the ave of the turistas...& then there's a still a couple of brothels such as hamburgos on central...

i'm been going to costa rica since 1972 when i came in on a purse seiner...it was considered one of the best ports for sex & partying on the eastern tropical pacific...they still have purse seiners anchored close by the pier...they still consider puntarenas one of the best ports for partying & girls

...it doesn't have lilly's anymore...but stlll has all a man who's been at sea for a month would want...
