Corfu holiday: day trip to Albania (Thomson holidays)

Country forums / Western Europe / Greece

Hi
Hoping someone can help, not been on this sit on a very long time, so hope I have posted this in the right place.
I'm going to Corfu on August and have seen that a Thomson do a day trip to Albania, is it any good and is worth going? If any other company's do the same, would still be interested in opinions of how worth while, interesting it is?
Many thanks in advance.

All depends on your interest for the archeological site of Butrint.
The sheduled catamarans arrive arund 10am at Saranda and will leave from there at 4pm. That means you will have 6 hrs only, just enough time for Butrint - Hexamilio - Saranda.

We do like history and archeological sites, so this is a possibility, what is the site like.

The DIY is not a challenge...
I don't see why you need to use a company...

We were going to go with them, as that's who are holiday package is with, and thought it might be the easiest way, as they take you to the site, then one other place.
But will try to find out, how this could be done are selves, thank you

Thank you kindly for the link

Not something I would normally recommend but in the short space of time, I would think the tour would be the best option, both in getting around and to be given information. Whether you like the or not Thomson normally offer pretty good quality excursions. (but I would say that being an ex guide)

Korfu Town to Saranda is an easy trip, 40 min across the straits.
Sarande is a pleasant seaside town, with nearby Butrint, an ancient site to visit.
If you had more time, Albania is more interesting than Korfu, an abandoned package tour destination .

Thank you, I think we definitely go, it's just whether we do it ourselves or book a tour/trip

You just need to buy a ticket for the hydrofoil (ferry). In peak season there should be three departures a day.

12

ThAnk you, are there buses or would you get a taxi to Butrint Unesco site?
Also do you know anything about a landing tax, and how much it is.

13

And you have public buses between Saranda and Butrint.

Thanks, I will have a look for timetables, do you know how much tax you have to pay, to get into the country, when you get off the hydrofoil?

15

I don't know the current (2017)situation but I don't think you have tax or then the tax is included with the ticket.
