Colombo to Jaffna bus service

Country forums / Indian Subcontinent / Sri Lanka

I note that the CTB bus service from Colombo to Jaffna restarted this week with apparently big celebrations in Jaffna. Sounds like a bone shaker of a trip on the CTB vehicles but I guess there will be private buses also running the route now it is open. What with the air force soon to be operating a passenger service to places like Trinco, it seems the government wants to open up the north and east to tourists as soon as it can. I assume this will not include the beach where thousands of Tamils died and were buried during the last weeks oif the war.

Hi Steve,
I also read of the Jaffna bus service restarting but I'm not too sure about continuity..
They sendn a convoy of five buses down to Colombo but they had a heavy armed escort through the northern section.
I can't see them keeping that up for long.
Plus, it was only about 3 days ago that a claymore mine was exploded by remote control and killed a couple of soldiers. That was on the road which they are now saying is safe...
Hmm, not sure.
Much the same with the idea of the S.L. air force flying public internal flights.,, smacks of headline material to me.

I do agree that the government wants to get things moving as quickly as possible but I reckon thats mainly so they can say,, "look what we're doing for the Tamil areas, give us some money."
I think it's a matter Wait and see.
Rod.
