Cologne or Stuttgart

Country forums / Western Europe / Germany

Hi all,

I need to catch a flight out of Frankfurt airport in the evening, however - I will be flying in from elsewhere. At this stage, it's significantly cheaper to fly into Stuttgart or Cologne that same morning (i.e. I will have around 12 hours between flights) - I was wandering:
1. Is it easy to transfer from those respective airports to Frankfurt? I don't mind a 2 hour train ride.

  1. Will train tickets be crazy prices if I don't pre-book them.

Thanks!

Fantastic! Thank you!

So I take it that Cologne is a better option?

Where are you flying from that makes the flight difference so much that paying for train tickets and the other risks involved make it worthwhile. Especially if your flight from Frankfurt is back to Oz.

Go to the Deutsche Bahn website and look for special offers - you can often get an ICE for less than the price of a normal 2nd class ticket (ICE is faster and far more comfortable). You can download the ticket - and reserve seats.

When you buy the airline ticket you can then buy a rail and fly ticket for €33 which allows you to get from the airport to anywhere you'd like (including use of the ICE lines). Refer to https://www.germanwings.com/en/information/services/train-to-plane.html for more info, but double check the advance priced tickets on deutsche bahn as they may be even cheaper than €33.
