Me and my boyfirned are thinking of going to Costa Rica for the middle two weeks in June. We were hoping to go diving. white water rafting, hiking and hoping to visit one of the volcanoes - will the rainy season prevent us from doing any of these activities?

I have heard the diving is the best in Drake Bay, has anyone been in June as I think the rain is especially heavy there in the rainy season? Or does anyone have any recommendations of where would have the best diving conditions at this time of the year

We can always put our trip off till October if people recommend that this is a much better time to visit, although I know that the rainy season is one of the quietest times to visit.

Go in June. October is much worse... The height of rainy season. In the Osa, many things actually go into hibernation in Sept/Oct because of the rain. You're fine in June... In June, typically nice mornings, afternoon clouds, then late afternoon/evening/night downpours that may be continuous or intermittent. Remember, the sun rises around 6am, so there's a whole lot of day to explore.......

Yes....June is much better than October, as Cresti points out, the Osa-Corcovado closes down almost, due to heavy rains and impassable trails/roads.

I went diving at Isla Cano off Drake Bay last May 25th, and it was excellent, best diving in CR outside of the Liveboard at Isla Coco $$$.

I stayed at Jinetes de Osa Lodge, they are dive resort, as well offering packages and guides for the Corcovado park. I got here via a flight from SJ to Palmur Sur, then a taxi through the palm oil plantations to Sierppe, and then you catch a boat down the Rio Sierppe to the Pacific ocean, and out thru the waves and on down the spectacular coastline to Drake Bay. The lodge sits right on the bay where the boats beach for passengers to debark.

Figure at least 3 nights in the DB area, 4 is perfect. Its not cheap here, about $70PP all meals, as there is no town, its just trails and lodges, no electric, and the real deal, real jungle, the GEM of CR. you take boats to the north entrance at San Pedrillo ranger station,

Rains occur late afternoon in most elevated areas as well as the southern zone, late afternoons, and can last 2 hours or 2 days, but its all part of the tropics and fun, so roll with it. You will visit all canopies and adventures early morning, getting a start sometimes at 430am..so at 3pm, when the rains hits, your pooped, in a hammock, a beer and siesta until sunset.

You can fly in out of Drake Bay, or also Pt Jimenez, and also Golfito and water taxi to PJ or Matalapo for the southern entrance at Carate.
