Clothes for Mt Sinai

Country forums / Africa / Egypt

I'm in Sharm next week and would really like to do this; however, do you need proper hiking gear (mine is currently up the parents loft)

I have fleece, dri fit t-shirt, trousers - do I need proper walking boots and head torch? (I don;t really want to bother buying more gear as I do actually have it - I do have 2 maglite torches but not a head torch)

You'll be fine. I wore tennis shoes, jeans, and a dri fit. This was in June. A guy I hiked with just wore Teva's and was fine. 2-3 hrs. of uphill walking when most of it is just dirt trail, so no biggie on foot gear as long as your comfortable. Any torch will do, I just carred a mini-maglite, and it worked fine. Just make sure you keep drinking water, and bring some as its a tad more pricey in the huts when walking up.

It does get chilly up there if you wait for the sunset. But you can rent blankets and mats when your up there. I actually was sweating as going up and pretty hot even though the air was cool and dry. But once, I got to the top, and waited, it got chilly pretty fast. 3 of us shared a mattress and a blanket. It worked for us!

Beware of fleece-eating camels

On any night the moon is out you don't need a torch at all

Thanks - will definitely do it then.
