clothes.......

Country forums / North-East Asia / Tibet

hi

i have done a search on clothing and read many of the threads and i have a reasonable idea of "how much" to carry.

but am still not sure of "what" would be appropriate for a mid-septemeber trip. i have always lived in warm climates and 20 degrees celcius is cold enuff to bring the sweaters out of the storage cupboards ...

i am not sure of my travel plans and might do some interiors but am not planning for any major trekking. and unfortunately no mt. kailash either. the travel will be whatever is easily do-able ex-lhasa over a week.

i realise too that a lot can be boughtin lhasa - but since i have some stuff from a trip to beijing in winter, i'd prefer to bring it if thats whats needed.

warm caps? mufflers? woollen inners ? how many layers ? gloves ? woollen socks ? rainwear ?

thanks

If you do a 4 day trek, say from Gamden to Samye, you should bring warm clothing. Did the trek in August and at night and in higher elevations, it's freezing. I had my fake North Face jacket, purchased in China a few years ago, and it just sufficed. At night, wore three socks and still cold and unable to sleep. I brought the wrong sleeping bag...a summer sleeping bag. Rain Gear is a must, and bring the gloves. Better yet, bring those chemical warm packs--the ones people take to American football games and put in the gloves/socks. Wish I had at night.
