Churches in Uganda and Kenya

Country forums / Africa / Uganda

Hi - bit of an odd question, but I'm trying to find out if Christian churches in Uganda, Tanzania and Uganda (of any denomination) have religious art work on the walls that show black people. Usually church artwork in Europe and North America show Jesus and the disciples and anyone else as "white", or middle eastern at best. I've been to east Africa a half dozen times but I can't seem to recall seeing any church artwork that shows people - children flocking to Jesus, crowds, anyone - as black.

I didn't go in too many churches mind you, but the ones I was in were very simple, country affairs and I don't remember anything about the artwork at all. And I need to know now, so if anyone knows, please let me know.

Thanks

Andrew

Most of the art work of Jesus' Disciples in these churches are white. I guess this is so because religion came from the west.
A few of them have black art works like the Uganda martyrs shrine Namugongo Uganda.
These art work pieces show the young men who were burnt to death by king 'kabaka' Mwanga for their loyalty to Christianity.

A number of Tourists flood Namugongo shrines to celebrate their death on 3rd.june. every year.

Lots of black people in Ethiopian religious artwork, if that helps at all!
