chinese visa after prior tibet tripCountry forums / North-East Asia / Tibet
Hello, Does anyone have experience with getting a chinese visa after having previously gone to Tibet? I was in China and Tibet last year and want to return this summer to see some other parts of the country. There is proof in my passport that I went to Tibet last year since I departed China at the Zhangmu/Kodari border. The exit stamp is in Chinese which is I do not speak but I'm assuming it states the border point. Also, on a visa application it asks about previous trips to China and destinations, I don't want to raise a red flag by writing Tibet, but I don't want to be caught lying either. I would really like to return to China this year so if anyone has any advise it would be appreciated. Thanks,
You cannot erase the 'proof', so don't worry about it. If we are looking at the same form, the space for putting 'date, place and purpose' of previous visits is quite small, so put places like Beijing and Shanghai, and tourism. If there is space in the form listing where you plan to go on this visit, do not mention Tibet. | 1
You did not need to worry, you can with a tourist identity let travel agency to help you apply for a permit, so you can go to Tibet tourism, but your travel itinerary will be fixed in advance, can't change, So you need not worry, a lot of tourists to Tibet tourism is such | 2

#3....I think #2 is trying to sell me something lol | 4
I'm not sure why these guys are still permitted their business links in sig lines . LPTT did a half hearted purge and got rid of several posters on other branches who never advertised and only had info links in sig lines. | 5
The moderators don't scour the boards looking for problem posts; you need to report posts like that one yourself (hit the "report abuse" icon) to bring them to the moderators' attention. | 6
At the moment I wouldnt count on the mods for anything!! | 7
You have raised a good question. Over the years, I have met many people who have been to Tibet and exited China into Nepal and have not had any problems getting a future Chinese visa. I definitely would still not mention Tibet on your application form. Instead, list the bigger Chinese cities that you went to. You should be fine just listing 2 or 3 of the big cities you went to previously. | 8
In case anyone needs to know for future reference, I was able to secure my 2nd chinese visa at the NY consulate with no problem. I just left Tibet completely off the application and they didn't care about or didn't see the TIbet/Nepal border exit stamp I was concerned about. | 9
Why would they stop issuing visas because you'd exited out of Tibet on a previous trip?? They could possibly already know you've been through your TTP. | 10
In 10+ years of living and working in Tibet, I have never heard of anyone who was denied a Chinese visa because of a previous trip to Tibet. | 11
