Meanwhile, JJ's Hostel in Cairns appears to have singles, and rates well, and these details you will also find on hostelz.com descriptions. Internet room are often in public areas, with good access after 9:00pm, particularly in the bigger city hostels.

I have stayed there.
AUD$60 for a single, when I asked if they had a room that night, I checked in with no booking, at 3.30pm, they took my EFTPOS card, and charged me AUD$60. But, when I got to the room, it was a double bed.
Attached bathroom.
Right on King William Street, in the city centre, lots of buses and still got people around.
YHA Adelaide is on Waymouth St, which I would not go walkies at 9pm, daytime ok, but not evenings, esp if I have to walk on Light Square
I think some of the pubs in the city centre also do have single rooms, with a bed, but you might have to share bathrooms & toilets.
Metropolitan Hotel, on Grote St, is a pub downstairs, has rooms upstairs.
Check out www.hosteladelaide.com. Its part of the Hostel World group. Might list some hostels that have got private or shared one to you only rooms.

| daycat16:00 UTC12 Feb 2007 | In Melbourne, there is now or will be soon, a Formule1 hotel in the CBD.
AUD$79 per room per night, you get your own room, the premises might be be a retro fit, but the furnishings etc should be new.
www.formule1.com.au

Or, private rooms in some of the hostels around town in the CBD of Melbourne, either with own facilities or shared, at www.hostelmelbourne.com.

| daycat16:17 UTC12 Feb 2007 | Ah, you want internet rooms?
That would cut out a lot of the hotels as they charge a lot of $$$ for using their lines.
Sorry I said anything.
