Changi Airport...what to do?Country forums / South-East Asia Islands & Peninsula / Singapore
I arrive at Changi at 1:35am and I leave at 10:00am, aside form sleeping/hanging out in the airport what can I do? I know its not very much time but I really would like to make the most of it, eg: see the city. Any suggestions/advice on what I can do? Thank you.
Just stick to the airport. Tons to do there, as long as you're not in the budget terminal. It depends on the terminal, but you can watch movies and play billiards for free. If you've got your laptop, you can surf the web for free, etc. etc. But my first choice would be the swimming pool in terminal 1. only $14. Yeah! | 1
I like the pool idea a lot but unfortunately it is only open from 0700 until 2300. My timing is terrible. haha | 2
Changi airport is amazing as airports go. It's like living in the not too distant future. There is plenty to do in that time. But be careful if you are sitting next to the koi pond, as they water the indoor plants from time to time, and you may get rained on. | 3
Checkout this for some info on Changi. It is consistently rated the best airport to sleep in in the world. I didn't sleep there, but just passing through it I was impressed! | 4
Take the hostel from arrival to 6am, then jump into a taxi to one of the nearest hawker centre to Changi Airport, grab a bit of breakfast, walk around, then another taxi back to the airport, take a shower for about SGD$10 and go to the departure gate for your flight. Breakfast for a Singaporean can be anything, congee or rice porride, or noodles, or roti channai/murtabak, or Delifrance, or kaya toast (coconut jam on toasted bread-yummo!)... A cup of jet black coffeee with sugar, or just plain black. Bitter as! You can sleep for about 4 hours, get up at 5am, go out of the airport, do an hour and a half or so of walking about, in one of the hawker centre/shopping complexes, and then another taxi to the airport. That is what I would do, anyway. Yes, it would entail spending a bit of $. I am assuming you don't need a visa to enter Singapore. I am telling you, it might be hot and humid once the sun comes up, but its worth it. I do like Changi Airport, and yes, it can while your time away, if you are happy to sleep in the secure area, and then spend 3 hours or more, just walking around in "air cond comfort"! But thats just the opinion of a cat. | 5
Hardly worth leaving the airport for such a short time! | 6
Thanks for the link mrszhao, funny stuff. I like your suggestions daycat, Id like to wander the streets in the wee hours of the morning, hopefully I wont get too lost, or spend all my money on taxis. Thanks everyone!! | 7
Unless you are into the night life I'd say stick to the airport. Taxi's are prohibitively expensive into town (and back) after midnight, and there isn't any public transport until dawn. Plus you will need to get back in time for check in. And even if you left at dawn when the MRT or buses start, you'd have to get back to the airport in time. So that leaves you about what...an hour? If you head into town you will be unlikely to be allowed back into the Transit section until the official check in time for your flight. So you'll be stuck in the "public hall". So in my view, unless you are a night owl and money is no factor, then stay in the airport transit lounges. But if you do go downtown the all night spots tend to be in the Geylang area. Even they start shutting down about 3-4AM. | 8
