Cell Phone that can store photos

Interest forums / Travel Tech

I am looking for a touch screen cell phone for which I can DIRECTLY transfer photos to from my camera memory card. The idea is to be able to safely backup my travel photos without the need for a computer. I have never really been a fan of tablet computers, so the Ipad + camera connection kit is not what Im looking for. I also seem to remember that the Nokia N8 came bundled with a USB stick reader connector.

Are there any other phones out there that can do that sort of thing?

The technical name for what Im looking for is "USB on-the -go". So far, it seems that only a handful of phones support this feature. It really doesnt make sense as to why manufacturers havent added this feature to all smartphones! Just imagine how nifty it would be to backup all your travel photos to your cell phone without the need for a computer.

Theres all sorts of issues with this and power consumption is the main reason. Most people want longer battery times in their phones.
Also many phones take extra storage as microSD cards, so the phones themselves would not be the backup, but the cards themselves would be.

Alternatives are items like portable photostorage devices with HDD inside, there are some nifty new devices also like cloudFTP that allows you to use wireless to connect to a HDD as well.

I agree more devices with the ability to communicate/transfer over USB would be great but many tablets don't offer this yet either.

Im very impressed with CloudFTP - its an amazing solution to such a big problem that I have with backing up my stuff. Thanks for the recommendation!
