Cartagena, Bocagrande area

Hello to you all,

Hope you are all well, where ever you are today.

Just a quick question if anyone knows the answer. It has been mentioned to me that the Boca Grande area of Cartagena is a bit dodgy, .. Would anyone be able to confirm this or is it mistaken information. Anyone who has personally visited the area and could comment, all replies very much appreciated.

Bocogrande isnt dodgy at all normally. Maybe late at night on the beach. Use normal common sense and you will be fie. It is the Getsemani (sp) area that is dodgy (near the old city). In bocogrande you will get annoyedby the venders trying to sell u stuff though.

Therefore would anyone reading this, be familar with a Hotel/Bar/Resturante called Coral del Mar. In the Boca Grande area. Would really appreciate anyone who has stayed/visited there, who can either recommend it, or not, whichever the case.

Yea Bocagrande at nights but during the day no problems there. About coral del mar I'm not sure if I now it. I

I agree with Bickerss. I've been to Boca Grande and it is rather upscale and I felt very safe there. However, there is not a lot of pedestrian traffic as many homes are large and most people drive. So you still need to be careful if you're walking at night.

The Getsemani area is more risky. Another traveller I met had his gold chain stolen while walking through the area. (I know, what was he doing wearing it!) But again, if you're experienced and careful, you shouldn't have a problem here.

well..so here you have your answer...bocagrande is an area specially designed for rich american tourists who go to that place and hang out only around that area...they leave their ship go to boca grancde and take the day trip to playa blanca...dont worry if you dont show off too much people would be very nice to you, thats what colombia is full of. you would love cartagena just meet the right kind of people and do the right thing.
