Carnival of Barranquilla

Country forums / South America / Colombia

Hi everybody!

I will be in Barranquilla for Carnival next february. I was wondering if someone has been there and can give me some advices: is the party only in the daytime or also in the evening/night? Does it worth to buy tickets for particular events or I just need to be in some streets where the party is ? Where exactly? In which part of the city it is worthwhile to sleep for being in the heart of the celebrations? How many and which days (saturday? sunday?...) do you suggest to be there?
Thanks a lot

Hi! replying to each question:

The parade begins during the day but party keeps on going well into the night!
While there might be different events, you just need to be on the streets to enjoy the Carnival. Most parades go through Via 40 avenue Just ask for references while you are there.
I stayed at the Holiday Inn while i was there; although I had a medium budget.
The parade lasts 4 days, and while all are amazing, definately stay at least for the first two (saturday and sunday). The party is unbelievable!

If you are interested in footage from the event i'd recommend this videos:

Hope this helps!
