Carnival in Santiago de Cuba

Country forums / Cuba / Cuba

Hi guys,
I'm going to Cuba for 2 and a half weeks at the end of July and was going to follow the most-suggested short-trip itinerary of Havana-Vinales-Trinidad but have heard good things about Carnival in Santiago de Cuba around that time? Is it worth me changing the whole itinerary to get there? About how much would a flight from Havana to Santiago de Cuba cost me?
thanks

Round trip Havana-Santiago flight would be about 200 CUC, maybe a tad more. Approximately a one-hour flight each way.

In my opinion it would not be worth it, as it is nowhere near as flashy as Carnival in Brazil, Trinidad, or New Orleans. Although probably just as drunken. Really depends on your interests. Try using the search function at the top of the page to look for previous postings on this same subject. There were lots of detailed responses from people who had recently done carnival in Santiago, which might give you a better idea of whether it is something you would find worthwhile.
