Car rental with unlimited mileage

Country forums / Middle East / Oman

Hello,

I'll be traveling for 9 days in Oman and want to rent a 4x4 car with unlimited mileage. So far I've checked all well known international companies (Avis, Hertz, Budget, Sixt) and none of them offers unlimited mileage. However, if I try to book with most car rental search engines they advertise unlimited mileage. Of course, the company providing the car is not displayed before you pay for it but based on the pickup location I identified companies from the previous list.

My question is, has anyone tried to book using a car rental search engine and on pickup received the unlimited mileage or you actually find out that standard rental company policy applies and you don't get what you think you paid for?

Thank you!

You need to look carefully at the rental terms (this is in general, not just for Oman)--some internet reservations will indicate that the rental is for unlimited mileage, but when you check the detailed, specific rental terms it will show that you are limited to 100 or 200 km per day. In some cases it's better to call an international company's toll-free line to make sure one way or the other; in my experience sometimes they will confirm that mileage is indeed unlimited, and other times they will not.

Also, note that in nearly all cases (exceptions include Hotwire) your card is not charged when you make the rental reservation, but later. If you see what looks like a good deal, reserve it and use your confirmation number when you call the agency to make sure it's what you wanted.

Thanks, that's a really nice idea - booking and checking the conditions later :)

I found one at Europcar. Looks like the conditions change from time to time as one week ago I'm sure they had limited mileage.

Glad to hear it worked out, azertiti.

Hi,

I rented a 4WD using rentalcars.com.
Following your message, I was especially careful about that "unlimited mileage" question.

I just received the corfirmation of my reservation.
The car will be provided by Hertz and, on the contract, it is clearly specified unlimited kilometers. I guess it should be all right then.

I used them in the past but didn't want to try this time as you have to pay some money from the beginning. I just didn't want to take my chances of booking and seeing later that I don't have unlimited mileage.

Glad to know it worked for you!
