Car Rental One Way to DonegalCountry forums / UK & Ireland / Ireland
I have a funny situation where I want to go from Dublin to Donegal (taking a few days) and then I need to leave the car in Donegal (actually Killybegs) to get on a ship and then I will get off the ship in Dingle a couple days later where I would like to pick up a car again and drive it back to Dublin. I can't figure out how to do this without spending around a thousand Euros. It seems the only car rental company that serves Donegal is Hertz, which is why they charge so much. Any ideas out there? Anybody want to drive a rental car from Donegal to Dingle Aug 29-31?
I hate to be negative, but I don't think there is any way you can do this. Most car rental places charge a small fortune if you don't drop off where you do your pick-up, thats just the way it is. And there are only a handful of car hire companies that have centres outside of Dublin, Cork, Shannon and Killarney. I don't think your idea of getting someone to drive a car from Donegal to Dingle will work either, as most companies will insist on checking the license of all drivers when you pick the car up. The insurance will be voided if you give the keys to someone else. | 1
Enterprise have an office at Dublin Airport and Letetrkenny, that would be the only way of doing it. From Letterkenny you'd have to get a bus to Donegal town and then to Killybegs. | 2
I'm not sure where you're getting the thousand Euros price. It looks like a 3 day Hertz car from Dublin airport to Donegal airport can be had for 186 Euros (plus insurance). Dingle looks more difficult, but if you can get to Killarney there's a Budget office (www.budget.ie.) and rates back to Dublin don't look too bad. | 3
Thanks for the input. I think this is just too hard and well take too much time out of my precious 2 weeks in Ireland. | 4
