Camping gear in Vancouver

Country forums / Canada / Canada

Hi there!
We would like to travel with a hired minivan from Vancouver to the Rockies and back in summer. Do you have a suggestion where we can get used camping gear to equip our car in Vancouver (matress, gas cooker, pots, pans, esky etc.). Is there a traveller car market where you can get those things? Or something like a K-mart?
We would also like to remove the back seats of our minivan and leave them in Vancouver. The hire agency is not prepared to keep them. Where could we store them for 3 weeks?
Thanks for your help and your suggestions.
Best wishes,
JK

There may be a Sports Rent in Vancouver.... I know that in Victoria there is a outdoor club with the University that rents out outdoor equipment and so does Sports Rent. Mountain Equipment Co-op is where most Canadians get thir gear from.

For the pots and pats and any other cooking related items you could try a Value Village or Goodwill store, they usually have used kitchen items fairly cheaply.

2

as mentioned check out the mec store here its massive(the biggest of its kind in the country)

3

MEC has expensive new gear.

Try Sports Junkies

4

MEC has some gear for rent.

I should have said "MEC has some gear for rent but the whole notion of renting (hiring) camping gear is foreign here.

You'll be buying cheap new gear from places like Canadian Tire or maybe bits and pieces from the Sports Junkies used chain.

6

Army and Navy and 3 Vets are also some alternatives for cheap camping gear

7

most folks from Vancouver look in the 'Buy and Sell magazine for used camping gear, or pretty much anything for that matter. Find these magazines at any corrner store..... there is an online version too.

vancouver buy/sell classified adds

You're most liikely better off buying cheap gear. I've never heard of somebody renting camping gear. As suggested Army and Navy or 3 Vets or even Walmart would be good places to check out.
