| damostack16:50 UTC28 Aug 2007 | Hello,
I was wondering if there was a company like 'wiked campers' (which runs in Oz and NZ) which hires out older campervans to budget travellers. We are looking at hiring a camper from 24th Jan (pick-up in Joburg) till 10th Feb (drop off in Cape Town) next year. I've been searching for ages and can only find fairly new campervans which seem to be quite expensive- R 12171.60 (just over AUD$2000 for 18 days). Is that expensive or is that standard??
We are not keen on going through the hassle of buying and selling a van, as we are only there for a short time. I'd love to hire an old Kombi or Toyota, rather than hire a car and have to book rooms in a hostel.
Cheers Damo

Sean here from Buccaneers backpackers in cintsa. I was in OZ last year and saw the wiked campers, what a great idea. Sorry man I have not come across anything similar, try the following smaller companies , Afritrax, Bushlore, Kea, just do it, they all hire camper vans and 4x4 with roof top tents newish vehicles so maybe a bit pricey. If you dont come right with camper and decided to just tent and camp out of a normal hire car try round about cars, backpacker prices.
good luck
