| tianmai11:09 UTC02 Mar 2007 | Hi,
does anyone know if its possible to buy US dollars with a card (cc or maestro) in Beijing or Shanghai? We want to continue from there by train (transsib) to moscow and want to use this currency for the trip.
many thanks in advance! cheers, maijana & christian

Hopefully you know that you should plan to get your Russian visa in Shanghai and that if you plan to travel from Beijing to Ulan Bator, you should probably plan to have a travel agency obtain these tickets are there are only 1-2 trains per week on this route.

Beijing and Shanghai have touts that will change it for you. risky, though.

If you want an invitation, I suggest using an internet based service. These companies can fax or email you the necessary documents to get a Russian visa.
I still am not clear why you think you need USB but I sent you a PM regarding this.

| tianmai11:03 UTC06 Mar 2007 | Dear Ruth,
we're not sure which currency to use within russia, we have just heard that the dollar works ok.
regarding the LOI/visa we plan to apply for the visa at the russian embassy in bangkok and though it would be enough to have just some invitation to some place (we are travelling through the country by train). do you know of an internet based service to arrange the LOI?
cheers, christian
