Buses in Honolulu

Hi all,

I am trying to plan a mini solo trip in on the north shore of Honolulu before I meet up with family. I'd like to get from the airport to waialua on the north shore, and then from there head to Kapolei to meet up with everyone after a few days- but I'm on a tight budget. I am trying to figure out if there're buses I can take from each point so I don't have to rent a car. I looked up thebus.com but am a little confused on how it works. Any advice on the bus system and if this is possible would be greatly appreciated!
