Bus Urumqi - Yining?Country forums / North-East Asia / China
Hi, Are there any NON-sleeper buses between Urumqi and Yining that travel during daylight? Apparently the ride has great scenery that can't be seen when going by train. The train is only 6 hours though and about 80 RMB only so I will do that instead if I can't find a bus with a normal seat. Tnx... drftr
Actually the trains about 8 hours - and there are trains all day - why would you want to take the bus? http://www.china-diy-travel.com/en/Search | 1
Views of Sayram Lake among other landscapes. Looks good enough for me on Google! According to ChinaTrainGuide the shortest train ride is 5:50 hrs only. If they lie, I do to. drftr | 2
The bus is not going to be cheaper or more comfortable than the train. But if it is a 6-8 hour trip, there will be buses during the day. | 3
How did you end up getting to Yining? | 4
The most boring way: by train. Virtually nothing to see. But at least it's fast and cheap compared to buses. They're probably that expensive because they're all sleepers (just guessing here). The much longer travel time is explained because they go across and around the mountains, while the train goes straight through the tunnels, the main reason why you hardly see anything of the spectacular scenery. If you're going the same way I think you should double-check for cheaper buses and/or maybe stay somewhere overnight while on route. Do check out my "Southern Silk Road" thread with some updated info about Yining if you plan to go there. drftr | 5
