Bus from from Ban Phe/Koh Samed to Aranyaprathet/Poipet ?Country forums / South-East Asia Mainland
Does anyone know how to get bus from Ban Phe/Koh Samed to Aranyaprathet/Poipet? I'd like to travel Koh Samed then I have to get visa to Svay Chek > Siem Reap,Cambodia.
I do not personally know Ban Phe but there is probably either a bus station or if not place on Sukhumvit Road where buses will stop. From there you can catch a bus going through Sa Kheo - this bus might go through to Aranyaprathet or you might have to change there and catch a bus going either to Aranyaprathet or direct to the border You do not want the buses going to Chanthaburi or Trat as this is the long way round There may be other alternatives such as a mini van but best avoided are any vans that claim they are going to Siem Reap | 1
Take a songthaw to Rayong, which has a bus station, from where there are buses in the right direction, if not direct. | 2
Are you sure these buses do not head past Ban Phe and cut up to Sa Kaeo avoiding Chanthaburi | 3
You are probably right. The last time I went thru' Ban phe, I went to Rayong to get the bus to Chantaburi and it went past Ban phe on the main road. But I wanted to see How Rayong had changed after 20 years, and have a look at the market. There is now a long distance bus terminal in Rayong, on the outskirts, where I came through from Mae Sot to Trat last year. I have found Ban phe to be expensive for onward travel. E.g. I paid 500 baht to get to the airport, everyone else paid a lot less to get to Victory monument, and I got dropped off first, for a taxi to take me into the airport. Years ago, it was always cheaper to travel to Rayong, and songthaw to Ban phe. From Koh Samet you can book a bus to a lot of places, but at a price. Personally I'd rather go to Rayong where you can pick a range of buses, rather than just flagging a bus down on the highway, in the hope it will get me where I want to go. I guess it helps if you speak a bit of Thai. | 4
Thanks a lot! appreciate:) | 5
I understand nervousness at getting the right bus but usually there other others (Thais) waiting at these stops and they will always help (In this case you just need to make it clear you want a bus to Sa Kaeo - if it is going on to Aran so much the better and do not get on any bus for Chanthaburi or Trat) As far as I know the buses on this route are all air con and not the local bus and flagging down the wrong bus is not a problem (especially if as it gets near you wave it on if it is going to Chanthaburi or Trat I do not know the frequency of these buses but I have seen them coming in and out of Sa Kaeo every time I visit heading to or from the North east | 6
Further to the above I am not even sure if these days there are regular buses Rayong/Ban Phe/Chanthaburi as I think this is now all run by vans. thus most of the big buses passing through Ban Phe would be likely to be heading North and via Sa Kaeo | 7
