Bus from Chile to LimaCountry forums / South America / Chile
Is it possible to take a bus from northen Chile to Lima, Peru? Thanks in advance :)
Yes | 1 | |
Yes and yes. If you are from the USA, Bolivia will charge you a $135 fee at the border, even for people just passing through the country by bus. That can be avoided by using the coastal border crossing via Arica to Tacna, Peru. | 2
Easier to take a bus in Chile to Arica, cross the border with a collectivo, then another bus from Tacna to Lima. | 3
Thanks all! Are there any bus companies you have experience with that you prefer over others? | 4
I wouldn't make much fuss about choosing a particular company. A bus is just a bus after all. I took various buses and planes in more than 30 countries all over the world and with a very few exceptions I failed to findmuh difference between them. And you can be assured that any bus in Latin America is much better than Greyhound(If I can believe the horror stories about this infamous company.) Just take the first one which leaves at a convenient time for you. | 5
It's a long trip and the coastal route (Panamericana) is boring. You might like to visit Arequipa, going from Tacna, if you haven't been there yet. And then continue via Ica, Pisco to Lima. | 6
