BUDGET accommodation in Dublin for New Year'sCountry forums / UK & Ireland / Ireland
Hi All, | ||
Hostelbookers.com is showing some places for around the EUR10-20 mark for dorm accom and EUR20-35 for private. You should look there. I am not sure why she would be having trouble finding places as there appears to be alot available. | 1
Ok, there's still time to salvage this New Year's Eve from potential disaster!:) Why are they planning to spend New Year's Eve in Dublin? For some reason, large numbers of people around the world have got a completely untrue notion that New Year's Eve in Ireland is something special. It isn't. Put simply, nothing of any significance happens that could in any way interest a tourist. The really unfortunate part here is that they are travelling on to meet you in Edinburgh, which is one of the best places in the world to celebrate New Year's (or Hogmanay as the Scots call it). Please, please, please, make your sister and your boyfriend see sense now. Get them to Edinburgh for Hogmanay, with force if necessary!:) I say this as an Irish person who lives in Ireland and it is not my normal behaviour to diss Ireland, but frankly, on this point I have to. It would be such a huge pity for them to miss New Year's Eve in Edinburgh particularly as you obviously have accommodation for them. | 2
Unfortunately timing's really tight as my sister's PhD has her back for January 12th and I wont be back in Edinburgh until the 2nd week in January- they could avoid NYE, but if they want to see Dublin, it'd pretty much have to be the first few days of January, which isn't much cheaper. I'm trying to convince them to spend NYE somewhere more rural, in a small pub and B&B (they're not huge partyers (partiers?)), as it'd be a lot cheaper. Any suggestions on this front? My sister's been to Dublin once before and Edinburgh twice (once for the cancelled Hogmanay!) so knows the drill, but it's her boyfriend's first trip abroad, and flights are cheapest through Dublin (they live in Boston), and as his family has Irish heritage, she felt bad taking him through the Dublin airport and not letting him see the city at all..... And I agree entirely with #3- my best NYEs have been house parties, which could have happened anywhere, with the right people. Does anyone have any good B&B suggestions for Dublin? I'm having no luck with Hostels, all are atleast 50 euro/night/person over the 31st, 1st and 2nd (prices are back to normal by the 3rd) for private double rooms. It doesn't have to be fancy, just decently located and cheap. Unfortunately I can't talk her into a dorm bed (which is what I would do), any good suggestions for nice places outside of Dublin? She's not going for Belfast... | 3
B&Bs will start at about €40 per person. At that price, I'd recommend Jurys Inns, which should start at about €80 per night for a triple room. Do the math. | 4
It is her problem if she is going to be picky, let her solve it - is the point I've reached. But because I'm nice, Lansdowne Hotel (allegedly a 10min walk from Dub central) is offering double rooms at EUR75 a night via the visitdublin.com website. Google, as always, is your friend. | 5
And I'm one minute late. | 6
ah she just emailed me back, and apparently booked at the Jurys Inn for 59 euro, thanks seaneendubh! | 7
thanks anyways djkemp, i'm quite impressed she got something for 60 euro- Dublin is incredibly expensive, and NYE is not likely to be any cheaper! | 8
