Much nearer , easier to get to and a more pleasant place to be is the nearby beach town of Negombo. Only about 20 minutes from the airport and plenty of choice of accomodation.
Couple of places in Negombo.
The Silver Sands, 229 Lewis Place, Negombo.........Tel; +94-(0)-31-2222880 web site.. www.silvwersands.go2lk.com Good, friendly, clean guest house.
or The Oasis Beach Resort (m & fish and lobster restaurant ). 31 Poruthota Road, Ethukala, Negombo. Tel; +94-(0)-31-2279022 Bigger and a bit brighter than the Silver Sands. Has a decent pool. Both face onto the road with pelanty of small shops, bars, restaurants close bu. Both open onto the beach at the rear but the Oaisis is a better, cleaner beach area.
A couple of places that I've had recomkmended to me for Colombo. I've never stayed in them. When I did stay at a budget place in Colombo it wasn't the sort of place I'd recommend . Come to that, neither is Colombo. just another fumey, crowded hot city. But,,,
Wayfarers Inn, 77 Rosemead Place, Colombo 7. Tel; +94-(0)-1-2693936 and Chanuka Tourist Guest House, 29 Francis road, Wellewatte, .... Colombo 6 Tel; +94-(0)-1-2585883
As I said, I havn't used these two but they were recommended to me. The two Negombo places I;'ve stayd in and liked both. Rod.
