Hi, meekone1- Not sure if you are still planning your trip? I'm also an American and have been living in South Africa for nearly 5 years now. I just got back from a holiday in some of the places you're thinking - Xakanaka / Okavango, Sevuti and Victorial Falls. I can definitely recommend the journey - it is really beautiful and depending on the time of the year you will see more or less animals. If you are going in the drier season the animal sightings are spectacular. A short description of some of the campsites and animals you will be seeing can be found at http://bit.ly/fm1x6c - I went in end December and it was just starting to rain - only cloudbursts for 20 or so minutes at a time, maybe once a day (some days none) and we saw lots of elephant, impala, zebra, hippos of course, etc. The roads were ok so long as your driver knows how to handle a 4x4... of all the places, sevuti was the most amazing - elephants roam the camp at night, one even came next to our tent and grazed from the tree over our heads. Enjoy the journey! | 3 | |
