border KIR UZ in OSH closed or open?Country forums / Central Asia / Kyrgyzstan
Hallo, is the border between Osh and Andijan open or closed? Thx for answer
It was open today (3rd March 2011). No problems at all. I'm a UK passport holder. | 1
Did you go from UZ to KYR or from KYR to UZB? | 2
UZ to KYR, but there were people coming the other way too (though I don't know if any were foreigners). | 3
Oh that is super cool, since that is the way I am planning to go also. I guess you crossed Andijan - Osh border? Is there any organized transport? Bus, marshrutka? | 4
Yeah from Andijon to Osh. From Andijon share taxis go for around 3000 Som per person ($1.2) to the border. You can always pay for all the seats if you need to. The spot where these taxis go from is a bit hard to find so get someone to point you in the right direction (or put you on the right marshutkra like my hotel did for me). The spot is about 10 minutes from the centre and the drive to the border was 45 minutes. The taxi dropped me nearish the border from where I could've walked, but given the temperature (ie very cold) I took another taxi right up to the border post for another 500 Som per person. Border was very simple with no bag search and no registration check (though this might change when it warms up!) and then I paid around $3 for a private taxi to Osh (20 minutes). Only hotel I could find open was Hotel Alay on Alisher Navoi. Osh Guesthouse (mentioned in LP) is now closed. J | 5
