Bogota,Medellin and Cartagena for 15 days oct/nov flying or bus?Country forums / South America / Colombia
After reading that it is the rainy season, having 5 days in each city, would you recommend to fly from Bogota to Cartagena bus to Medellin then fly to Bogota We prefer large cities as we discover the history and the beautiful
Flying is relatively inexpensive in Colombia, personally I would fly all three legs. | 1
I agree. Flying is the best way to go. You might go by bus from Bogota to Medellin. Since the distance isn't so great, an overnight bus would do the job. But certainly fly to/from Cartagena. | 2
Thank you for both replies, I will book our flights 4 weeks to 1 week before our arrival to Bogota. Perhaps the flights have more options and a better price. | 3
Perhaps, but perhaps not. I'd check the prices now if you are sure you will take the trip, and if the prices look good, snag the tickets. Avianca, I believe offers a few very cheap fares if booked far in advance. | 4
Thanks, I will check it out everyday as have already booked my flight to Bogota. I will certainly communicate my finding with LP | 5
I was there in March of 2015 the flight to Medellin from Bogota is less than an hour, Cartegna is over an our, it is 10 hours of driving so there is no question there, as for the city, it is a great time and you couldn't ask for nicer people to be around. It also quite safe despite what you've heard or people still believe, it's like any other city, including your own - if it doesn't feel right you avoid it. A few pieces of advice, first and foremost know some Spanish, in 15 days I think I found about 6 or 7 people that spoke English and that was either a restaurant or nightclub. The country is also quite cheap, the peso is pretty much worthless so for 2 weeks I cashed $200 and that paid for food, sightseeing and nightlife, which is quite good - and finally when you do travel by cab, know exactly where you are going the cab drivers will take you all over the city to get more money - otherwise it is a great city and a great time - a bit dirty and more homeless that you might not be used too - but aside from that, this a great place to visit | 6
