Blue Boy

I saw a young boy today about 2 or 3 years old, he was sick and his grandparents where putting a blue liquid on him with a cotton bud (it was thin and looked Alchol based). It was spotted all over his body, his granparents said it was to find where he was sick. I asked the staff at the hotel what is was and they had know idear, anyone here ever come across this?

Thanks for the feed back! First time i had seen this, a chemist confirmed it is gentian violet.
