Bike shops Uzbekistan

Help please! Just crossed Turmenistan on their horrendous roads with huge loads of water so bikes take real punishment. Now in Bukhara. One of our team has a rear wheel which is cracking up. Wont last much longer. So looking for good bike shops in Samarkand or Tashkent. Need a 26 inch 36 spokes. Yes it was a Mavic again. Please let me know of any. Can't help for Uz I'm afraid, but, just in case you manage to/have to limp on as far as Almaty (Kaz), you can get good stuff there (the best in Central Asia, I'd imagine). There's a very good workshop in a kind of basement under the north end of the central stadium; it doesn't look much from the outside, but they know their stuff in there and have a good stock of parts. However, I hope you find a solution sooner than that...

Sorry to hear of troubles.

People keep mentioning that Mavic rims crack. Mine have been ok upto now (1 year).

I searched desperately whilst in Tashkent for cycle shops. Not much luck. There was a little street joining the North side of prospekt Navoi that had a row of around 3 shops (they sold outdoor stuff too). It was about a 10 minute walk East from the big Circuis building. Please dont read this info as fact is was a while ago since I was there.

didn't find any proper bikestores in tashkent last year either. remember leaving some spareparts at mobinjon hostel in bukhara, but i am pretty sure that didn't contain any kit you could possibly use to fix your rim with. not sure about your further progres, but if you make it to china the giant bikestore in kashgar is a good place to go for repairs. otherwise you could try on getting stuff send in? also, i know one of the kids running the hostel next to the registan in samarkand was once given a bike by one of the cyclists staying there. not to nice for him, but you could consider asking to take out his rear wheel and sell it to you?

If you're in Samarkand, there's a few bike shops on the road towards/from Penjikent. But small and not very professional.
Tashkent has a few shops near the Navoi / Usmon Yusupov intersection. They stock Giant bikes, so maybe you can get a wheel from one of them.
The rest is not the best quality, but maybe something before you get to Kashgar, where there is (hearsay) a very good bikeshop.

OK, we're in Osh (Kyrgyzstan) now and found a really nice shop here. Very professional and enthusiastic.
We got the address of one of the guys from Osh Guesthouse.

I think it is called X-store/Bikemaster or something like that (my Russian isn't that good)
It is behind the Osh Business Centre on Alieva Road no.145, tel. 56633
The guy that runs it is called Nicolai. Very nice!

Hello

I'm posting this on a few forums to get the word out, so sorry if you're reading it everywhere!

My rim exploded 20 miles from Tashkent after 9,000km of abuse from London. Got to the city and the only bike shop was Dinamo - useless and overpriced. They did however put me in touch with Philipp, a local guy who speaks some English, who took me and my wheel to the 'Master', Andre.

Andre sorted everything excellently. He has loads of spares.

To avoid paying a comission to Dinamo (like I did), call Philipp directly. He'll probably invite you out for a ride in the mountains too! And tell him I said hi (I'm the English guy he said was crazy for riding Tajik and Kyrgyz in the winter!)
