Best way to see Mekong in 2 days?Country forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Vietnam
We have 2 days in late July to make our way from Phnom Penh to HCMC, but would really like to travel by boat and visit Chau Doc, etc. to get there. Is it enough time (maybe 1 night each in Chau Doc and Cantho) or should we consider taking the 6 hour bus from PP to HCMC and then jump on a quick tour to the Mekong Delta (and is there even a 2 day option)?
If you wait until you are actually in HCMC then; | 1
Hi we went from saigon to phnom penh through the mekong delta, pretty sure you can do the opposite direction look at www.deltaadventuretours.com/ we went with them and they were ok | 2

If you go from Phnom Penh then the agent that sells bus and boat ticket PP - SG I want to recommend is Capitol Guest House in Phnom Penh. Also see post #90 in FAQ Vietnam and read Fredsun's post about his boat trip SG - Chau Doc - PP. | 4
Hi Everyone - thanks so much for all your advice. We've ruled out the road option. We'll probably go by river from PP-Cantho, using Cantho as a base for 2 nights, then onward to HCMC. It doesn't seem like there are a lot of scheduled tours for the same route (at reasonable prices!), so I guess we'll have to book each leg along the way. | 5
I did the bout trip in reverse and loved it, why go by bus??? | 6
In my opinion, Chau Doc or Vinh Long are better bases than Can Tho. Vinh Long, you can do homestays, arrange canal rides and (OK) floating markets -- even bike on islands. Can Tho is more about a couple floating markets. Anyway, that's my take on the Mekong Trio. | 7
robert_reid: intriguing thought about Vinh Long as base. I'll look into that more (especially the biking part)! | 8
