BEST WAY TO DO THIS CHEAP AND SAFE

Interest forums / Travel on a shoestring

Hey guys and girls..

I have never really posted on a forum before so forgive me if I am not exactly following etiquette.

Here goes..

I want to travel to Barcelona to Valencia to Casablanca to Egypt to Israel to Berlin and then from Berlin I'lll be making my way to Tilburg University in the Netherlands.

I am from Australia and it will be my first time in all these countries.. I arrive in Barcelona on the 19 of July. I need to be back at Tilburg University on the 18th of August.

So it essentially leaves me about a month to do my plan..

Is my plan viable? What is the cheapest way to travel from each destination? How much should I budget for bare minimum?

Also, I return back to Australia via Dubai.. will visiting the above mentioned places impact my stopover in Dubai? I.E. Israel passport stamp?

Also if you recommend a Ferry to Morocco.. What port in Spain should I head to?

Any recommendations would be fantastic.. thanks in advance!

First I'd reduce your destinations a fair bit. You're covering too many places in one month.

I'd suggest maybe a week for BArcelona and Velencia, a few days for Berlin and the rest in Egypt.

You mentions Casablanca rather than Morocco - assuming that means you don't plan on visiting the rest of the country you should note that Casablanca is a modern city with little charm and little interest to tourists. It's name conjurs images which no longer exist. If you're having thoughts of souqs and casbas head to Marrakesh instead.

I too think that you should reduce your destinations. I think that one week for Barcelona and Valencia, roughly two weeks in Morocco and a few days in Berlin would be your cheapest option. Choose a few destinations in Morocco and don't rush it too much. Be aware that, if my memory is OK, transport between Valencia and Morocco isn't easy and you'll have to go to Madrid (or back to Barcelona) to take a flight or to add and "extra" day to go to a port in southern Spain with ferries to Morocco. I recommend you to make a more detailed itinerary (including the number of days per destination) and to come back with more questions.

Ah ok. I have done some more research. My issue is money and I think Morocco will be a lot cheaper than Egypt.
After reading a bit I have decided to take Israel and Egypt out of the equation.
Instead I plan to spend:

5 days in Barcelona. 3 days in Valencia. fly from Valencia to Morocco (its a cheap flight) 8 days in Morocco (not Casablanca) rather Marrakech and few other places. from there I fly to Vienna and from Vienna i get a train to Berlin..

@zik4n: Your new plan sounds much better. Enjoy your trip.

sounds like a good plan

Much better. But isnt train from Vienna to Berlin quite expensive? Could imagine it would be cheaper to just fly to Berlin (unless you want to go to Vienna, in wich case i would still find a flight from Vienna to Berlin. Try Air Niki, Germanwings or Air Berlin)

I personally think 5 days in Barcellona is a LOT. I was totally bored after 2 days; however, I know several people who think it's the best place ever. My suggestion is leave your plans a bit flexible so you could always hit up Madrid or some other parts of Spain/Portugal if you want to mix things up a bit. If you did still want to make it to Egypt, the cheapest way to get there is probably the discount airline Air Arabia which flies both to it and Morocco (it has bases the UAE, Morocco, and Egypt). Also, if you do manage to get to Israel at some point, it will not inhibit you from going to the UAE, but you would have problems going to places like Iran, Syria, and Lebannon.

Have you thought about stopping in Prague between Vienna and Berlin? Would certainly break the journey up a bit, and is definitely worth a visit.
