Best Route to Attapeu?

Country forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Laos

I am very familiar with Vientiane ( wife was born there) and have travelled to the North quite a bit but have never been South. What is the best route to Attapeu? We will probably be travelling there between October and December from Vientiane. I really hate busses but according to everything I've been reading, I might just have to tough it out!
Thanks,
Lee

Pakse>Sekong>Attapue

You can easily go on a rented moto or hire a cyclo in Pakse.

There lots of waterfalls and markets to see along the way, even resorts, so break it up and enjoy!

You could take an overnight VIP bus or fly to Pakse. The road is in pretty good shape to Pakse and from there you can take a bus or hire a minivan to Attapeu. I'd recommend getting there before Dec. because the last time I went, the water level along the Nam Sekong had already dropped down too low to really make going by boat from Sekong to Attapeu worthwhile.

Pakse - Sekong - Attapue is good!!! Go slow & see what there is to see. It's a great area...
