Best Low Cost airline flying from SE Asia to Colombo?

Country forums / Indian Subcontinent / Sri Lanka

Hi all

I have a very quick question relating to flying one-way from SE Asia (Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok or Singapore) into Colombo.

I would ideally like to fly from SE Asia directly into Colombo, but at this stage I haven't been able to find a low cost fair to rival Air Asia's great deal from Kuala Lumpur to Tiruchirappalli (Southern India).

Can anyone assist? Cost wise is it better to fly into India from SE Asia then fly on to Colombo?

Thank you for your assistance.

Joel

AirAsia did announce plans for a KL > Colombo flight... From memory by August... not sure if it's going ahead.

Last week I flew one way from Singapore to Colombo direct with Emirates. The fare was SG$174 including tax ($178 if from a Singapore travel agent), maybe $278 return. You can buy direct from the Emirates website or a travel agent.

If you are travelling from Singapore, Emirates Singapore currently offers promotional fares direct flight from Singapore to Colombo.ou have to book before 31 May and travel till end of June.

Airasia started flying KL-Colombo, with tickets on sale from June 2 for flights from August 15. Unbeatable introductory fares of ~ $AU40 each way, all up. Won't get those fares now but more sales upcoming, with more Indian destinations in pipeline in near future. Makes all other fares quoted on this thread to SEA and the sub-continent seem expensive.

Hey Kilbar, just wondering if you know which new destinations in India Airasia is planning on and when. I checked their website but couldn't find anything about up and coming routes. Thanx

For India... BKK - Calcutta and BKK - Amritsar are likely this year... also Penang - Chennai.. possibly by October.

Thanx, did you get this info off their site? I can't seem to find it on Airasia.com
