Best image size for web display?

Hi all,

I would like to put more of my photos on flickr and of course, my website. What is would you recommend as the best overall image size in pixels? At the moment I tend to go with W=500 and H = 300 and something (whatever number comes up due to the aspect ratio) - for a landscape format image.

What do you use?

These days I assume ~800px for landscape (assuming most are now viewing at 1024x768) - less for portrait, as screens are shorter vertically, say 600px or thereabouts.

I always use 800x600 for landscape and 450x600 for portrait as the largest size.

I do 700x525. They fit on almost everyone's screen and the file sizes are under control.
