BEST BEACH FRONT BUNGALOWS - Koh Phi Phi ???

Country forums / Thailand / Thailand

There are SO many to choose from! Looking for a recommendation for the best beach front bungalows on the island. Price not an issue. Just want the best.

Thanks!

If price is not an issue, get me a first class ticket and I will go there in advance to look at all the bungalows for you. I assure you I am one picky bastard when it comes to that stuff.

when you land in tonsai bay on phi phi....look left, all the way down the beach by the big rocks. bungalows called rockclimbers bungalow or something similar. i climb, so it iwas nice to be by the rock...but even if you don't, it is very quiet down there and you have the nice beach at the end to yourself and it is not far from the action if you choose. 700 baht should be the price. really nice people and good little restaurant. no beer though as they are all muslims down that side of the beach. would stay there again.

Phi Phi Don Chukit Resort is where I've stayed. THey've got a big range from super cheap to pretty pricey. Very nice deluxe ones on the water front from wat I've seen and central to everythng on Phi Phi.

Zeavola is the best.. and if you go before October 31.. and stay for 4 nights... you can get a deal for 4200 Baht per night.

I think mose is right. Another nice one is PP Island Village on its own fairly big and very nice beach midway up the east coast.

Yes, I like PP Island Village. Not knowing the size of the island and the distances between places/beaches/resorts/town, I guess my question is how far PP Island Village or Zeavola are from the action? In staying there, is the point to be secluded, or is it a small boat ride to the center of town. Just trying to gage some distances! ...also, is the water nicer where PP and Zeavola are or better in the bays in the center of the island?

Okay, I just got my trusty PP map out. PP Island Village is approx 8km from town. A longtail will take maybe 20 minutes to do the trip. It will cost a bomb in budget backpacker terms, but shouldn't worry upmarket travellers. Actually, a place like should put a free shuttle on into town. Might be worth emailing them.
The beach and water are nice at PPIV's Loh Bakeo, although a lot of east coast beaches get a bit shallow at low tide (as does Loh Dallum, the beach on the north side of the village - actually it gets WAY shallow). I can't say for sure about Bakeo because I haven't been there at low tide.

Ditto the beach up the northern end of the island (about 11km from town) where Zeavola is located. It sure looked nice when I visited, but I'm not sure what the tide was doing.

The beaches in the center of the island vary. As said, Loh Dallum gets VERY shallow and not that attractive when the tide is right down, although it looks nice anywhere above quarter tide. On the opposite side of the town spit, Ton Sai Beach tends to be fairly drack, overcrowded with boats both big and small and a bit polluted EXCEPT right down in the far western corner where #2's ROCK CLIMBING BUNGALOWS are located, where it is actually quite nice, and deep enough all tides. But RCB is a basic backpackers' thatched hut with outside toilets place. Nice, but basic.
Heading across the south coast towards the east coast, the little bays are nice enough but have the shallow water at low tide problem, until you come to Long Beach, just short of the SE corner, which is a lovely beach with deep water all tides. Only complaint really, a fair bit of longtail noise.

Ah yes, I didn't say anything about seclusion.
These beaches are very laid back.
In my visit in March, I noticed there were new huts built high on the southern headland of Loh Bakeo. They looked very high-end and I think I read somewhere that they were an annex of PPIV. Thing is, there is bound to be a separate restaurant/bar up there because it was a fair distance from the main complex - so you have some variety.

There are several other resorts up the north end of the island in Zeavola is located. All are high end or mid range, so that gives you some dining/tippling variety. I think I read in a review that some outsider had set up an awsome bar near PP Natural. Maybe you could google a map of PP, see what places are up there and read the various hotel booking sites for a few reviews. I have been reading sawadee.com, Asiarooms and Planetholiday lately.

I agree Tezza, they aught to... but it works the other way around.. They go out of their way preventing the ordinary longtail boat owner from "doing business" from there. That's the advantage by staying at the Zeavola (and PP Erawan, Natural and a couple of others) on the north eastern corner.. Not just do you have plenty of choice when it comes to restaurants.. You are also able to make your own arrangements with the boat owners.. thus saving the silly resort prices for transfers etc.
