Belize in august

Country forums / Central America / Belize

Hi,

We're looking for a trip to Belize in august and I'd like to know how's the weather. Should we go north or south ?

Fishing and snorkeling are on top of our list of activites !

Thanks :)

Both our visits to Belize were in August (2003 and 2009) and the weather was good - hotter in 03 than 09, no hurricanes, rain almost exclusively at night. I think it's a great time to visit.

Where you go depends on your budget and amount of time. How long do you plan to be gone and what's your general budget? Are you interested in ruins and caving and hiking, or just blue water time?

We only have a short amount of time, a week or so. So we're looking for blue water time more than hiking and ruins but if we can go there for a daytrip, that would be good :)

Although it might be a bit spendy and a long day of travel, you can visit the Lamanai ruins on a day trip from either Caye Caulker or Ambergris Caye. You'd drive from Belize City up through agricultural land, get on a boat on the New River (think great birding, crocodiles, the occasional spider monkey) to the beautiful Lamanai ruins set on a lagoon. They serve lunch and give you time to explore, climb the ruins, see the howler monkeys, check out the little gift shops, then you retrace your steps. We loved Caye Caulker - great snorkeling trip options including the sailing trip we took with Raggamuffin (no snorkeling from shore to speak of), good food, lodging options at a range of price points, great laid back feel. Check out the island and accommodation downloads on Lan Sluder's site. Have a great visit, whatever you decide! Don't forget to post a trip report!
