Belfast 20 days

Country forums / UK & Ireland / Ireland

My cousin lives 30 minutes outside Belfast. I'm planning to visit for Christmas and New Year's. Trip will last between 15 to 20 days.
I would appreciate suggestions on things to do, places to see, concerts, music, places to eat, pubs and anything else like that. Thanks a lot.

When you say '30 minutes outside Belfast', in which direction?
I know the area very well - and can help you wherever you're staying.

I visited Belfast about 3 years ago and the highlight was a ''Political walking tour'' of the Falls Rd. I was expecting it to be run by some dowdy University lecturer with a beard and wearing roman sandals and thick socks. You can imagine my surprise then when we were instructed to meet our guide outside a high rise apartment block and it turned out he was ex IRA. It was and still is to this day an indelible memory and something I would strongly recommend. Ask at the tourist office in central Belfast and they will be able to point you in the right direction. Aside from that you will always have the recently opened Titanic Museum to look at, which if the press reports are anything to go by, looks like a worthwhile visit.

North Antrim coastline is quite nice. Giants Causeway, Dunluce Castle etc. The train takes in some of the coastal views. Well worth it!

Definitely include Belfast - have a look on the gotobelfast official website for ideas. The Ulster Folk & Transport Museum at Cultra (a very short train ride) is usually well worth a visit and has some good Titanic mobilia.

The north coast is a must - Dunluce Castle is well worth visiting, Carrick a rede rope bridge (over-rate IMHO but people love it so....) , Bushmills Distillery - check if tours are operating as it may be closed over Christmas and of course the Causeway.

Also go to Derry and walk the city walls. The Tower museum is also worth a look. Take one of Martin McCrossan's guided tours or just walk round yourself.

Dublin is also easy to get to for a day trip (or spend a few nights).
