Beaches+driving in Guadeloupe?

Country forums / Caribbean

Hello, I've booked a Holiday for 10 days on Guadeloupe but wonder two things:

  1. What are the best beaches on the Island?
  2. I have a Swiss driving licence, is an international driving Permit required? (I've received different answers to this one)

Hi Crazydre, from swiss to swiss

1.Beaches (all on the same coast)
- Gosier (which is the closest place to Pointe-a-Pitre and therefore very popular with the locals and probably also with the best infrastructure)
- St.Anne (very touristy, with a souvenir market and bars, Club Med and "Pierre & Vacances" are there)
- a little bit further at "chemin congo", that's the most natural one, with only a restaurant and a parking lot, but with less people than on the other two...

  1. As Guadeloupe is proper France I would think you don't need one, as you don't need one when driving to France, but I'm not 100 % sure. An international driving permit makes only sence, if you need a translation in the language of the country and our swiss driving licence is in French as well.

  2. If you're with a car you should take your time and visit some nice places as well, I recommend
a trip to "Point du Chateaux", where the Atlantic Ozean and the Caribbean Sea meet
nice is as well "Cascade aux Ecrevisses" in the rainforest, where you can bath as well.
