| middy23:28 UTC23 Aug 2010 | Needing a little more advice please. As part of our trip, we are planning about 4 - 5 nights in the Algarve picking up our car in Faro and then moving on to Tavira, Lagos and/or Salema.
Originally, thought a couple of days in Tavira followed by a couple of days in Salema then driving up to Vila Nova De Milfonts to continue the journey to Evora etc.
Could stay longer if worthy (total time in Portugal about 20 nights), but uncertain if we should pick one spot in the Algarve as a base or move around a bit....any thoughts or suggestions would really be appreciated! Cheers

Villa Real de Sto Antonio at the borderline river Guadiyana was a surprise for us, and a very quiet beach without frills near the very end of the dam. So don't base at one spot... And going to the north, the less crowded and very nice beach of (Praia de) Bordeira, with dunes

Accomodation in vilaMoura will be ideal. there you can have five stars hotel to self catering apartments wish will be much less expenseive. From Algarve you can have trips arranged in travel agency to anywhere in Portugal. Or you can rent a car ( week is less expensive than by day.) I live in Alvor, and i prefer this area (west ) than the east. But Tavira is a nice city...and deserves a visit. Vila Nova de Milfontes is a lovely town. There is a small hotel called Social Hotel, just in front of the Bay. I think it is a 3 star hotel and it is not very expensive. From Alvor it is around 1 hour and 30 minutes far away. There is two towns you should know, in alentejo. Evora and Moura. I just arrived from Moura and I will recomend the hotel of Moura. It is an old palace that needs some renovation, but it is very clean and it is not expensive. The night in the high season is 45.00 euros with breakfast included. My english is terrible sorry.
