Banknotes from ATMsCountry forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Vietnam
Hi everybody, On arrival, if I withdraw VND from one of the airport ATMs, what kind of denomination will I get ? Thanks !..
Just God knows that but normally 500,000 note. There are many ATMs in HCMC so you do not need to withdraw so much money like that. | 1
hehe ... | 2 | |
Generally you get 500,000 note unless you withdraw small and odd amount. ATMs in Vietnam are plentiful but they are not free. Fee is generally 20K/40K per transaction (max is usually 2mil). Some ATMs, particularly foreign banks, allow you to withdraw higher but the fee could be higher too. HSBC charged me 50K for 2.5million withdrawal (about 10K for each additional 500K above 2million). | 3
thanks getyoung 50K fee for 2500K withdrawal, that's 2% right there .. :) .. | 4
A couple of months ago I was generally withdrawing 3-4 million at a time and getting it in 500,000 notes. I would then go back into the bank and change at least half of it into 100,000 notes, as I find they are the most practical for small purchases - cheap meals, drinks, taxi's etc. The 500,000's are good for paying for hotels etc. | 5
Thanks Dale164, it is so true about big notes, especially annoying when the taxi or the Xe Om declare that they don't have the change for it .. :)) .. | 6
