I'm 66 years old and like to visit Uganda. Is it safe and easy to travel as a backpacker in Uganda? I have been backpacking a lot in other countries.
Depends what you mean by "safe" and "easy". Road/transport standards aren't comparable to Europe/US, public transport can be slow and irregular, budget accomodation can be extremely basic, and since the majority of the population is poor, pickpockets naturally do exist, so you need to look after your belongings. However, as long as you have your wits about you, there's no real reason to worry. The country is beautiful and the people very friendly. W. | 1
Thanks fore the information. I'm not a luxury person so that's no problem and pickpockers are everywhere in the world Also in my country Holland. Than going on holliday has to be slow> We are in a hurry enough the rest of the year. Martin | 2
Uganda is the safest place in the African region at the moment and very accommodating to the backpackers. I am actually a Uganda living in and I have interacted with backpackers so much but am not a tour guide although I offer advise to travelers. bruhanmubiru | 3

It is safe to back pack in Uganda. Depending on the activities you intend to do and how long, you may have to "mix" in some "mid-range" lodges. Some offer very good value. Temperatures in some parts like the Murchison falls can be pretty high for the average citizen.. | 5
im 25 female solotraveller - was in uganda at 23 and 21 (for my 21st birthday which is a whole different story in itself!) i have never been to a country outside of europe where i have felt more safe. that is in terms of the people - in contrast, the roads are incredibly unsafe. it wouldn't deter me from travelling there but i must say that i am scared at times when in transport. plus you have the health side of things but im sure you know all about that as being experienced. i love uganda, i think it's my favourite country to travel to - im sure you'd love it too | 6
