Backpacker missed - urgent

Country forums / South America / Bolivia

Hallo,
Fridrik Kristjansson from Island has been in Rio de Janeiro until 28 or 30 of march 2013. From there he did go to Paraguay by bus. Last contact (skype) was 30 or 31 of march, saying that he arrived in Py. I have reasons to belive that it was not Py but Foz de Yguasu.
Questions:
1) Is there anybody how met him in Rio and can apport anything about his plans ?
2) Is there direct buses from Rio to Foz de Yguasu and how many hours takes it ?
3) Is there direct buses or easy switches to Ponta Pora and how many hours takes it ?
4) Does have anybody any alternative idea wich way he has gone to Py and within (thats the question) witch is the city where he dessapeared ?
Fotos are here:

I also need a feedback to a hypotetic logical chain:
If a backpacker goes from Rio to Foz (thats the most reasonable route when he says he goes by bus to py) he finishes up in Foz, not in Ciudad del Este. After that long trip ( and in the last skyping he torks about a endless bustrip) he will not go straight for Py.´since everybody goes to Foz for the falls. To explore the falls its much easier from Bras, evan if you will go to Argentinien side. So i belive that his words mean that he is "almoust in Py" and consequently we have to search in Foz de Yguazu Hotels and Hostals.
Are am i right with this or is there some idea to proof my idea wrong.
All possible invoice welcome.
See you

Yes, there are. They take more than 23 hours.

Is there direct buses or easy switches to Ponta Pora and how many hours takes it ?

AFAIK, there aren't direct buses. Not sure what would be the quickest option changing buses but bus from Rio to Campo Grande (something like 21 hours, give or take an hour) plus bus from Campo GRande to Ponta Pora (5-6 hours) comes to my mind.

I can't get into the link. Probably because I'm not on facebook though.

Nobody here can know if you are right (unless someone met the guy you are looking for) but I'd like to point out that there are some direct buses from Rio to Asunción... They take 28-29 hours... And there are also buses from Rio that leave you in Ciudad del Este...

Thanks for your answers.
Since today i know for certain that he didnt make his visum-stamp in Ciudad del Este. That means that he didnt go straight to Asuncion, nighter quite in CdE because the international buses without exzeption stop on the bridge for imigration, pass passangers list and all of a need must go out and get the stemp. Since this point is very (cruzial) important, please correct me if you know different cases.
I wish to get in touch with backpackers how had been in Foz de Yguazu 31. March 2013 and a few days ahead.
I hope today the family of the missed creates a link isible for everybody.
Thanks for your help

The area around Iguazu Falls is considered very safe, both on Brazilian and Argentinian side. It's one of the most visited spots on the continent.
The falls are on Argentinian/Brazilian border, and very close to the border with Paraguay. It's easy to travel between the two countries without passport. From Iguazu to Ciudad del Este is a short bus trip. I'm not sure about the immigration procedure these days, but when I visited the place 8 years ago. I had to find the immigration office to get my passport stamped. I could easily get on another bus and proceed to Asuncion without that. CdE is a huge open market where people from the three neighbouring countries come for shopping.
In Paraguay, you can travel basically in two directions. Either to Asuncion and from there to Argentina (Resistencia, Corrientes), or via Chaco to Bolivia. The latter is a long bus journey, with only a couple of places en route, Filadelfia (menonite town) being the main one.
Good luck with your search.

Passport is necessary to go from Brazil to Argentina and vice versa. Ours was checked and stamped in March 2013.
