Babies on boats - New Zealand

What's the general ruling in New Zealand on taking (8month old) babies on boating excursions .... I'm guessing that somewhere along the boating spectrum there's a limit .... I know we can take on the interisland ferry but obviously not on surf kayaks ...but, seriously where's the cutoff? Wife and I know there'll be a lot of tagteam efforts but are hoping to do at least some water based activities together .... I'm guessing the size/stability of the boat and intended destination/weather are determining factors, but apart from this common sense what are the legal/regulations re this....For example, and specifically on Sth Is, can you take an 8 month old on the
Milford Sound cruises?
Kiakoura whale watching cruises?
shuttle boats for Abel Tasman/Queen Charlotte walks?
fishing charters on lakes?
sailing cruise at Queenstown?
Harbour/Steamer cruise at Christchurch

Any help?

We had no problems at all taking our 7 month baby on a Milford Sound cruise and the shuttle boats for Abel Tasman.
Don't know about the others. Sorry! In fact we had no problems at all taking our baby anywhere. Pubs/restaurants were a lot more accommodating than they are in the UK.

Straya - not sure about the specific excursions you are asking about but if you plan on doing a lot of boating activities with your child you might want to invest in a life jacket for your baby. Many tours only have 2 sizes of jackets, neither of which would be suitable for an 8 month old, and if you had your own baby jacket you could go sea kayaking or canoeing with the baby.

I am sure you can take a baby on all these things.
