"authentic" bars/nightlife in prague

Country forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus / Czech Republic

Hi all,

Spending May in Prague. Will be staying at dorms at Charles University as part of an exchange program. Experienced backpacker/traveler. From what i've read it seems like the best way to experience some decent nightlife is to befriend the locals and follow their lead. That being said, any starting recommendations for a good beer and music for college-age crowd without the rest of the tourists?

Many thanks

well you just might be in luck, there is a Beer Festival on in the second half of May.

loads of beer, good food live music and pretty girls (and boys ) to serve you.
I will be there from the 25th, but you should have some good fun there.
Also if the weather is nice then the beer gardens will be busy ,the one in Rigrovy Sady has a big outdoor screen for watching sport and the one in Letna park a great place for hanging out, some good views from there, this is also the area where all the skateboarder and rollerblader hang out.

Hello, Mjkaye. I'm going to be in Prague in November, for the first time, but I've searching very actively in the internet for things to see and do there. The precedent recommendations sound cool and I will take them into account for my own list.
In case you like live jazz/blues bands, there is the Jazz Dock Club in Kampa Island. In the warm season they open the bar on the roof. (I have not been there yet, but it's in my list lof "must go to").There's a link for you to have an idea. Prices seem to be student wallet-friendly.
