ATMs in Qinghai

In addition to my previous posting; I have a Chinese ATM card and was wondering if there are ATMs in the Tibetan parts of Qinghai, Sichuan, Gansu, Yunnan. I know there's one in Zhongdian.

Since you have a Chinese ATM card, it will be easier than without. Bank of China is only located in Xining, Golmud and one or two other mid-sized towns (not in Jyekundo though). Other Tibetan towns in Qinghai will have Agricultural banks as well as Construction banks so it shouldn't be a problem getting money.

There are now several places to use an ATM with a foreign card in Xining. The main Bank of China near the Great Mosque has one inside. There is also an ATM across from the PSB station as well as another between Da Shi Zi and Xi Men.

Outside of Xining, there are no ATM's that will accept a foreign card. I can't tell you how many emails I have received from people over the years who have been stuck in places like Repkong, Jyekundo or Chabcha without a way to get money. If you plan on traveling for extended periods of time in the remote Tibetan regions of Qinghai, be sure to have enough money with you.
