Assistance with Gulu

Country forums / Africa / Uganda

Hey everyone,
I will be headed to Gulu in a bit, and I wanted to see about accommodation for roughly 3-4 months. Looking for something basic and cheap, not too fancy.

Also, I will have some time, roughly 3-4 days a week, where I can do some volunteer work. Does anyone have some good ideas for places to volunteer in and around Gulu?

Thanks,
~Ray

I think I slept in the Roma Hotel or the Rainbow guesthouse. About two blocks west from the busstation. Basic, clean and cheap.
For volunteering, I know that invisiblechildren.com is active over there.

Ray,

Unfortunately, landlords in Gulu require 6 months of rent upfront. Your best bet is to get to town and put the word out that you're looking to rent a room from someone who's already rented a house or compound. Its a pretty tight-knit group of expats here in Gulu and you should find something within a week or two. Just hang around at Cafe Larem, BJ'z or Sankofa Cafe and you'll meet everyone in a few days :)

While searching for a place, you should stay in a hotel in town. Check out Wajoli.com its the only site I know that has updated photos, pricing and lets you book Gulu hotels online.

Cheers!
