April '08 Trip AdviceInterest forums / Travel on a shoestring
Hello, I am planning a trip come April '08 from Prague->Vienna->Munich->Nuremburg->London. Though I am not certain if this is practical but here goes : Prague - 2 days (train to Vienna) My questions : I know maybe some would say scrap London because it's too expensive, in my case, but as I have been told, time and time again by other Malaysians on how great London is to other European cities, then London is a must but I would most appreciate any tips and pointers. Many thanks.
It is always better to get currency in your destination country rather than before you arrive. As Qwovadis says, use ATMs to get money in EVERY country you go to. | 1
atm's give the best rates. Find one that says "no fee at this end" type message. Like going gambling, "Never carry more cash on you, than you can afford to lose". Pickpockets and purse snatchers are very quick and slick, in Europe. Cops can't do a thing about it. So they don't bother. I'm serious. Police reports are only good for insurance claims. Rick Steves money belt is the answer. Fits passport (which you only nees for next hotel and airplanes.), airline ticket, and only other things in the funny instructions. Mine saved all three times. I take it, by two days in a place, you mean at least three nights. As long as you went so fa,r at such expense to get there... If you learn to travel cheap and folksy, there will be a next time. Its the most fun travel! It takes a whole day to travel, and get set up, in new digs. It takes a half day to get your barings in each new town. I hope you'll stay in smaller towns than bussling tourist od'ed, more expensive, crime ridden capitols, ports, or border towns. History happened in inconvenient places too. | 2
Take a look at that money belt! | 3
