| ragrabar19:52 UTC13 Aug 2007 | Has anyone been on Mt. Kenya recently? I understand it has been raining a lot and quite cold recently in the area (unusually so for this time of year) so I was wondering whetherer there is a lot of snow/ ice on the summit and whether it is considerably safe to go...?
Can anyone comment?
Also I understand the summit (Pt. Lenana) is somewhat more difficult than it used to be 10 years ago (when I did the peak the last time) as some rock broke off making the last few meters more exposed. True?
Thanks for any comments! R.G.

| beebo17:55 UTC18 Aug 2007 | R.G. Just came back from a 5-day Sirimon-Naro-Moru trek summitting Pt. Lenana yesterday. The weather is usually brilliant in the morning, blue skies, clear, sunny, until between 1000hrs-1200hrs when the cloud comes across, vis is reduced and often rain/snow falls depending on your altitude. The tracks are quite wet and muddy, so come prepped for that, gaiters would've been my choice to bring if I'd known beforehand. It is quite cold during the evening. I didn't have thermals, but had a fleece, beanie, gortex and short/long sleeve t-shirts for layering and I was ok. On the summit of Pt. Lenana, there is a little snow and ice. The final climb is quite steep and ice on the rocks does make it a little tricky, but with some care you will be fine. The summit is very exposed, yesterday with all the fog and snow, we had no wind! So you win some and lose some, but I'm sure with wind, it would be very cold! I had a great 5-days and wish I could've spent more time there! Cheers Phil
